HOPE FOUNDATION TANZANIA

to bring hope to those who have none

NEWS!

December 2013

Hope’s Project Coordinator, Thom Soi, was sponsored to visit the United States of America with 2 previous volunteers (Katie and Diana) to learn about the U.S. culture and to raise awareness and funds for Hope Foundation. A podcast interview (by Phil Ladden) will be posted online as a result of this trip, along with links to other organizations who may partner with Hope Foundation. Thomas taught High School children African songs and dances to perform at a benefit concert to raise funds for the orphans at Hope. This concert will take place in February 2013. This trip was an amazing opportunity to promote Hope Foundation!

November 2013

New Canterbury Christ Church University student teachers arrived, bringing new life and energy to Hope Foundation. They stayed for 1 month, making friends with the children, teaching at Mwika Integrity School, and learning about the culture in Marangu.

July 2013

Natalie arrived to volunteer from the U.K., working with the orphans at our primary school, playing with the children and staying with Hope long term giving of her time and teaching talents.

May 2013

Electricity!!

Due to the kind donations from Chrestos Church members, we were able to install electricity for the first time, at Hope Foundation orphanage. This provides us with light to do homework at night, to walk safely around the Orphanage grounds, and to charge electronics. What a blessing! (Prior to electricity, we ran a generator for an hour or two at night to provide us with electricity. It would run off of gasoline.)

April 2013

Student teachers arrived from Canterbury Christ Church University (of the United Kingdom). The teachers taught children at our Primary School, Mwika Integrity, for 4 weeks in Standards 1-5 (ages 7 – 12). These teachers were a great blessing to us, donating their time, talents, and hearts to educate our children. They did an amazing job and the children loved spending time with them.

April 2013

Lovisa and Michaela arrived from Sweden to volunteer with our children at school and after hours. They played with the children and took the children to the Mkomanzi National Park. The children had a wonderful time and had never been there before. They will never forget this memory!

March 2013

We had the pleasure of meeting Rahel, Peter, Stefanie and Marleen from Austria. They helped cook meals for the children, tutored the children during their school vacation, and taught adult English classes. Peter swam in the river behind Hope Foundation, making him the first volunteer to fully immerse himself in the cold river. We had a lot of fun with these volunteers for 1 month.

November 2012

Nora, Miriam, Ida and Ulrika came to volunteer from Sweden for 1 month. Gustav and Simon met up with them for a week, contributing and teaching the school children as well. Nora, Miriam, Ulrika and Ida took the orphan children to Kilasiya Falls for their first trip to the waterfalls. They enjoyed this very much.

Ida climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. She is the first Hope Foundation volunteer to do this! She found this experience to be very interesting and rewarding and encourages all other volunteers and locals to give this a try!

June 2012

Katie and Diana arrived from the United States to volunteer at Mwika Integrity for one month. They taught the children various subjects including English, Math, and Yoga. They also hosted adult English classes and had fun having the adult English students compete in games to display their new skills. They spoke and sang at church (Jordan Temple Msae) and played with the children. After becoming interested in helping Hope Foundation in the future, they became official Hope Foundation International Representatives to assist interested volunteers and partnerships from their home in the U.S.
