FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR MWIKA INTEGRITY SCHOOL, JULY 2011

Motto of the day: YES WE CAN!

Mwika Integrity School and Hope Foundation recently held a Friends of Hope event at the school in order to raise funds towards the teachers’ salaries. The occasion was a great success with a wonderful 500,000Tsh (£196), donated by our very generous attendees. Guests included pupils’ parents, the local church parishioners, members of the Tanzania Women Research Foundation, Dr Ester Shimber and Guest of Honour Mr James Nathaniel.

Master of Ceremonies Pastor Mark Mrina (Committee Member) opened the day by explaining the purpose of the event. Mr James Nathaniel of Tanzania Children’s Concern, who has been a Friend of the Hope Foundation since 1993, addressed the group and appealed for the community to come together in these challenging times and support their local school. Mwika Integrity School is the vision of Pastor Godlisten and his wife Marge Mrina (Founders) and their aim is to help provide an education to orphans and underprivileged children. Unfortunately the school has not had sponsorship since January of this year and has been facing great financial difficulties. However, their dream is still alive and they would like the school to be able to accommodate more children in the community, to do this they would like to build more classrooms.

Asante to the support and donations made by the community, Mwika Integrity School is a little closer to achieving their vision. Also a very big Asante Sana goes to the dedicated and loyal teachers of Mwika, without them our children would not be receiving the high standard of education they are providing.

If you would like to learn more about Hope Foundation and Mwika Integrity School or if you would like to make a donation please go to the Donations page of the website.

Long awaited building work is currently taking place at the school with a new classroom being added on to the existing 2 classrooms, this was funded by money raised by new volunteer Tarryn!

Building had ceased for most of last year as funds were not available, but Tarryn arrived at the beginning of January and volunteers went out and bought building materials the next day! A plot had already been marked out and foundations are currently being dug.

Tarryn plans to be at Hope Foundation for a few months and will be volunteering as an Office Administrator, as well as helping with teaching English to adults and teens.

2010 Summary

A big THANKYOU to everyone who has helped out, donated their time and money and supported the charity in 2010. Fundraising really only started in May and since then weve had quiz's, raffles and a couple of Swing Dance nights, and in total we've raised just over £1000, which is fantastic!!!

Money has so far been spent on a new generator for the childrens dormitories and dining area where kids can now do their homework by electric light in the evening. Money has also bought some much needed food supplies (it takes a lot of rice to feed 28 kids!) as well as some of the childrens medical expenses. It has also sent one of the girls, Lightness, back to school after she was sent home, unable to afford the school fees. So your generosity has made a huge difference to everyone but especially Lightness, so thankyou all very much!

UK DONATIONS

A community bank account for UK donations has been set up with Barclays Bank. If you would like to make a donation, details are below.

Name of Account: Friends of Hope Foundation TZ
Sort Code: 20-72-89
Account Number: 83968316

Donations and funds raised in the UK account will be collected and sent to Hope once it has reached a significant amount. The reason we do this is due to there being a transfer fee for international payments, so by collecting the donations together it makes the transfer fee more worthwhile.
